Nostalgia

This is a really great article for all us 90s kids. And I am pretty sure I smiled/laughed through the entire thing...such good memories!

10 Things 90s Kids Will Have To Explain To Their Children

While most things we experienced as tots in that headiest of eras seems pretty self-explanatory (plaid was everywhere, Leonardo DiCaprio was the molten ball of light around which the solar system turned, and there was no color too bright for your sweatpants) there are some things that will be a bit harder to explain. Here, a primer for when your future children want to know what the hell you were doing with your boxy, multicolored electronics.
Nov. 23, 2011
Chelsea is a student and writer living in Paris.
1. Topanga was at some point in human history considered not only a legitimate first name for a human being, but the kind of name that would inspire in malleable teenage boys a life-long infatuation. Topanga, in our day, was leading lady name-material. Topanga (pronounced Tah-payne-ga, for those who will have only ever seen in it written down) is the name of the quintessential girl-next-door who will live, along with Feeney, in our hearts forever.

2. At some point, we carried around little plastic eggs with tiny screens on them — in these screens lived our hearts, our pets, our raison d’etre, our very own Tamagotchi. We loved them, we listened to their tiny electronic screams of malnourishment, and we occasionally forgot to pick up their poop for long enough that they died a tortured, poop-filled death. They were perhaps our first foray into the life-consuming world of electronics and self-absorption, later to be fully manifested by Facebook.

3. The black Power Ranger was black and the yellow Power Ranger was Asian because…we were so completely ahead of our time and beyond the capacity to even think in terms of something as inconsequential as race that… uh… I don’t know. Casting directors were racist in the nineties.

4. Long before he was spending his days foisting his mediocre children on us, Will Smith was actually the
perfect human specimen. He also undoubtedly holds some world record for saving the world the most times while simultaneously delivering flawless catchphrases and giving cool guy nods to the camera. The Men In Black rap song, at the time, was created and received by the public without the slightest trace of irony. Really. He was that good.

5. In some inevitable shift of the time-space continuum in which James Cameron continues to rob humanity of all that is good and sacred in this world, Fern Gully will be known as that movie that ripped off Avatar. It will be up to us to crusade for what is right. It is up to us to explain that Fern Gully was not only a predecessor to Avatar, but far better, in that it contained both Tim Curry as a singing pile of molasses and Robin Williams rapping about animal testing in the pharmaceutical industry. (As a side note, if you have not recently listened to the full lyrics of the “Batty Rap,” I recommend you do, as they are horrifying.)

6. A neighborhood boy who completely disregards your family and puts a ladder directly under the teenage girl’s window to climb up at his discretion is not only acceptable, it’s charming. It’s the kind of stuff that would make said family take the ladder boy under their wing and into their heart. The nineties were a simpler time, one where we didn’t have to worry about things like breaking and entering. Clarissa today would have steel bars on the inside of her window and her father would continually remind her that the next-door boy with his ladder and his touchy hands have no place in his household.

7. Though on the surface, they are the exact same thing in every conceivable way, whether you liked The Backstreet Boys or N*SYNC said more about your character than all of the terrible macaroni art you could ever make for your child psychologist. Essentially, liking *NSYNC meant you liked Justin Timberlake, as he was clearly the Seabiscuit in that race from the get-go. You even liked him with his terrible, icy-blond mini-fro. Liking the Backstreet Boys gave you a bit more of a cultured palate, as there was no clear Diana in those Supremes. Nick was kind of the wholesome, if northern-Florida-redneck safe choice (save for his humiliating younger brother, Aaron). Brian was the shy, sensitive type. AJ was the hottt, dangerous meth addict. Kevin Richardson was mute with sexy, sculpted facial hair. No one liked Howie. Choosing between the two groups was like choosing between two beloved children, but once that line was crossed–there was no going back.

8. “I wanna really really really wanna zig a zig ahh,” has a meaning, and all true nineties kids know it, but we must never share it. Like the Illuminati, it must remain between us, the keyholders. With great power comes great responsibility.

9. Lisa Frank is not the name of a woman, it is the name of a movement, a culture, a way of living. It is a theory, a concept, a belief in something greater than yourself. It is the belief that all girls are entitled to dolphins covered with rainbows, jewel-encrusted frogs, and unicorns in acid-trip colors hugging each other. It is the ideology that no notebook is complete until it literally hurts your eyes to look at from so much color saturation. It is the hope that no school supply, no matter how insignificant, will be left un-bedazzled. It is the knowledge that your eraser cap, and that of your granddaughter’s, and her granddaughter’s after her, will not be some boring little nub–it will be a diamond covered with butterflies in a rainbow of colors. It is the dream of a better tomorrow.

10. Incredibly depressing women in Indiana covered in cats and glass figurines they buy at The Hallmark Store used to troll the web 1.0 to invest thousands of dollars in tiny stuffed animals filled with plastic beans. That happened. Beanie Babies were not just significant, they were the first example most of us had of envy, greed, and wrath. If someone messed up that little heart-shaped Ty tag, so help you God, that was the end of whatever contact you had with that monster of a human being. That tag-less Beanie Baby was now trash, and you had to deal with the consequence. It was at that moment, that de-valued Beanie Baby moment, that most of us accepted the truth… we’ll never have nice things

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas!

OHH my it's almost Christmas. I love Christmas. It is my favorite holiday, I know a lot of people say that. But I really love everything about Christmas. I love the food, my family, the traditions (old and new), midnight mass, giving presents, baking cookies, the Christmas Tree, decorating,....all of it.

I have started to do a little Christmas decorating at my house so far we have....

A TREE

Some Stockings

The Kitchen Table

 A Wreath

And The Front Door

I have more decorations to put up, but that is all I could get to tonight. It is my homework's fault that I have to stop. But even those little changes make me in a more jolly mood!

Wedding, Wedding, and more Wedding.

Today I was doing some procrastinating and I just hopped on over to my knot website....and it informed me that I was getting married in 35 days!!!
How insane is that...I mean I knew it was close. I have been counting down by weeks....by 35 days OMG, that is so close. I CAN NOT WAIT.

So since I was already on the procrastination train I thought I would just cross some things off my list!

First: I ordered this beauty, I have been eyeing it for months and I finally broke down and bought it.
Personalized Hanger Custom Made for Wedding Dress MAHOGANY wood SILVER wire
It is a personalized hanger...precious!!

Second: I checked my e-mail. Okay, okay that is not really wedding related BUT Martha Stewart emails me every day and today she sent me this

Umm pretty much the greatest idea EVER. If I didn't order my guest book yesterday, I would definitely be ordering this bad boy. How cute is this idea?!?!?!

Third: I wrote some more thank-you notes. So far I have been doing really well. I try to write them as I recieve the gifts, we will see how long that last.

Okay, well that is really all I got accomplished in the wedding department. But I did finish my portfolio. WooHoo one more step closer to graduation...now I just have to finish 35 lesson plans and grade some more papers.

Love one another and you will be happy.  It's as simple and as difficult as that.  ~Michael Leunig

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope y'all have have a wonderful day with family and friends. So far today I have already stuffed my face with one Thanksgiving meal and plan on doing it one more time before I go to bed tonight.

This Thanksgiving was a little different for me. I am usually in Huntsville, AL with all my family enjoying the yummy food, but this year I stayed and enjoyed Thanksgiving with Corey's family. It was a bitter-sweet moment for me. I loved every second with his family, but I also missed mine. Oh the stresses of having families that live four hours away from one another.

This year was also a first for me (well actually a second). I brought a dish to share to Corey's family Thanksgiving...and although I have brought this dish once before. It felt completely different this time around. Maybe it is because I am getting married, or because I am getting older, or maybe because it is something my family always makes around the holidays. But this thanksgiving I felt like a big kid. I felt older. I felt domesticated. I brought something from my family and shared it with Corey's. And I although I can't exactly explain the feeling, it was a good one!!

Hope Y'all Have A Wonderful Thanksgiving

Cranberry Apple Crunch

This Thanksgiving I made one of my family's favorite dishes and took it to Corey's family Thanksgiving meal. It was like bringing a little part of me into their awesomeness.
Plus this dish is AMAZING and super easy to make.

First you need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees, and then grease a 2 qt casserole dish.

Second you need to prepare your ingredients for the filling.

Ingredients for the filling:

2 cups of fresh cranberries
3 cups of apples (chopped)
2 tbsp of flour
1 cup of sugar

Mix all of the ingredients together and pour into a greased 2 quart casserole dish.

Next you will need to prepare all the ingredients for the topping
Ingredients for the topping:

3 packs of maple and brown sugar oatmeal
3/4 cup of chopped pecans
1/2 cup of flour
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 melted stick of butter

Then you will mix all the ingredients and pour on top of the filling

Bake for 45 minutes and then ENJOY!! It is best served warm.

DIY Ornament Wreath

First of all I would like to say that I am obsessed with any and all types of wreaths. So today I tackled a Christmas inspired wreath.

Step one: You will need a wire hanger.
Step two: Untwist the top of the hanger.

Step three: Shape the hanger into a circle.

Step four: String ornaments on the hanger and then twist the hanger back together, I also added a bow so I could make hanging it easier. I think I might change the ribbon to something more festive. I also used two different sizes of ornaments. You will need the smaller ornaments to fill in some of the empty space.
I love my first DIY christmas decoration.

Weekend Woes

Well this morning I could not sleep for the life of me. For school I have to get up at 5 a.m. and I guess my body decided I did not need to sleep in this Sunday morning. I  have been awake two and a half hours already.

And I have all of these people in my house, so I have to be extra quiet. I think I am about to make some delicious cinnamon roles!! YUM!

Weekend Woes.....a lot has happen this weekend.
1. My wonderful mother and sister came to stay with me....one of my favorites things in the world! I love it

2. My fiance went on his bachelor party in Atlanta. I actually did not mind the whole bachelor party thing. I am genuinely excited for him. He definitely needed the time away, to party it up with all of his friend. Corey is such a hard worker and deserved a good weekend with all of the guys. I can not wait to hear all about it.

3. I picked up my wedding dress!! I am having bridal portraits done on Monday and I can not wait. I love wearing it. Yesterday I showed it off to everybody...I think I put it on at least three times. First for my mom, then Corey's parents wanted to see it, and lastly I had to show my sister. Ahhhhh it is so beautiful, I cant wait for y'all to see it!

4. I had the opportunity to see another one of my friends get married. It is so weird that we are all growing up and getting married. It was a beautiful wedding, I think the ceremony was my favorite part. You could see how much Julie and Sage loved each other. They were both so excited and happy! I hope they enjoy their Happily Ever After.

Giving Thanks:
I am thankful for getting older and everything that comes along with it. Growing up, having a place of my own, watching my friends get married and have babies, seeing my sister enjoy her freshman year of college, finally graduating college (YAY ME), the hopes of getting a real job. I love it and I can not wait for the next chapter!!

Oh yeah AND I get married in 6 weeks......HOLY MOLY!!!!!

whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into
mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.”

Give Thanks

Rough day! My car, Sally, is being crazy. She won't let me take the key out of the ignition....weirdest thing ever!

But this post is about giving Thanks, not complaining.

So today I am thankful for a roof over my head, even if it is just a house with a skirt! I have spent the past two hours cleaning my house because I am going to have some visitors this weekend. I LOVE having guest over.
My mom's best-friend son is getting married (AKA my childhood boyfriend). So everyone is coming to stay with me!! My mom and my sister are coming Friday night, and then one of my mom's friends and her daughter are coming down Saturday. I can not wait!

A Few Weeks Ago, I found a blog post about how to clean your house in 10 minutes. That's if you clean your house daily. So as I was deep cleaning my house I had wished that I would have started this already. So today I am turning a new leaf, I am going to clean this house for 10 minutes everyday. I love a clean house, but with everything going on lately, I have not been able to keep my house up to par.

Here are the steps you need to take daily:
Monday: bathrooms-mirrors, sink, and bathtubs
Tuesday: clean kitchen
Wednesday: clean living room
Thursday: vacuum and sweep
Friday: dust and wipe down all surfaces
Saturday: bathrooms-toilets
Sunday: REST

Letter to Corey

Today I am thankful for Corey, well I am really thankful for him everyday.

To my Corey, my Best friend, my Love, my Rock, and my Partner in Crime,

I love you. You are the greatest man I have ever met.
You put up with me on the craziest days...and I have been having a lot of those lately.
You are the most dedicated, hard working person I know. You are going to do wonderful things with your life, I know it!!!
You make me smile everyday and you still give me butterflies. What more could a girl ask for!
You are an amazing son, brother, friend, and fiance. You tell me I am beautiful when I have no make on and I am wearing sweats. You change the lyrics to every song and you are a true Dog Lover. You are the caring, sweet man of my dreams. You have my back, even if I am in the wrong. You are my personal dictionary. You tell me when I am being ridiculous. And you are the guy I get to marry in 7 weeks. I can not wait.
Thank you for everything you do for me.

Love,
ME

We were in the car today when I heard this car and I knew just what I was going to blog about today.
So this song is dedicated to you. I love you!!

Veterans Day

November 11, 2011
I am thankful for all of the wonderful men and women who keep our country safe.  Not only the ones who fight of our country but their families who support them! Freedom is never Free.

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.

Family

November 10, 2011: Today I am thankful for my family, well Corey's family to be exact.

Since I am four hours away from my family, Corey's family has become mine.
Ever since I meet them, the welcomed me with open arms and accepted me into their family immediately.
They have done so much for me, I can not even tell y'all everything. These people are amazing! My wonderful fiance works crazy opposite hours of me. So on my loneliest days I just go to their house and I feel a million times better.
Today was one of those day, so I just went on over. Our night included: dinner and a movie. How many people can say that they just go chill with their in-laws...not too many.
To say I am blessed does not even begin to describe the way I feel.

Something Blue

Exciting things are happening in the wedding department!

I had a dress fitting on Saturday and guess what.............the dress still fits! YAY!!!
I was lucky enough to have both my mom and sister to come with me. It was so much fun to try my dress on again, I love it as much as the first time.

Here is a little sneak peak.....well at least my AMAZING blue shoes!
